The committee project to compile statistics for historical minor leagues made excellent progress in 2009. Using Ed Washuta's database as a foundation, the crew is proud that, as 2010 dawns, we have digitized the statistics for 239 league-seasons. The list, which is updated nightly, is available here on the committee site at http://research.sabr.org/minors/historical-statistics/completed-leagues. Statistics are available immediately upon completion in the new SABR Encyclopedia, and propagate out to baseball-reference.com on a regular basis. For 2010, we have set a goal that on or about Opening Day, our list of completed leagues will comprise all affiliated minor leagues from 1992 forward, and all independent leagues from 2000 forward. We may not quite hit that target, but at our current pace of progress, we should come close. Looking further into the future, by Opening Day 2011, we hope to be able to provide complete statistics back to 1978 for all leagues, and back to about World War II for the International and Pacific Coast Leagues and American Association. This is a volunteer project, so the speed with which we can make these leagues available is directly proportional to the time and passion volunteers invest.
